Poivre, Seychelles

Poivre is an atoll famous for its semi-lagoon attracting deep-sea fishing enthusiasts. It is located 270 kilometers southwest of Mahé in Seychelles off the coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. Poivre shares its atoll with Ile du Sud however both islands are separated by the semi-lagoon and both islands are very different in nature.

Poivre was named after French horticulturist Pierre Poivre who introduced spices into Seychelles. Poivre Island harvests the oldest coconut plantations which was a main source of income for island inhabitants. Visitors can witness the large population of blue and Chinese heron, hawksbill, and green turtle.
